THE BIG INSIGHT
AI STARTUPS vs THE SPACE MISSION
Source: Fortune
I wanted to start this Newsletter with something interesting, So here it is.
India’s Space mission landed on the South pole of the moon last week, with just the Budget of $75 Million.
While there are some AI startup funding stats that might sound ridiculous.
Character AI: (3D animated character AI Startup) Funds raised → $150 Million with $1 Billion valuation.
Grammarly AI: (A spelling and grammar enhancing Startup) Funds raised → $400 Million with $4 Billion valuation.
Highspot: (A marketing Startup) Funds raised → $644 Million with $3.5 Billion valuation.
While 80% of AI startup fundings are overvalued there are justified fundings too, like:
Hugging Face: OpenAI competitor Hugging Face raises $235 Million from Google, Amazon, and Nvidia at $4.5 Billion valuation.
Hugging face has more than 120,000 open-source AI models and more than 20,000 datasets available on their platform.
This platform can reach $100 Billion valuation in next 10 years easily as future lies in open-source and high-quality AI models & datasets.
LangChain: You can call it an app store of AI apps. LangChain enables you to build AI tools on top of LLMs like GPT-4 or Hugging face AI models.
LangChain raised $10 Million earlier this year with a valuation of $200 Million.
Anyone who’s trying to build AI systems or tools can understand the potential of this startup. It can hit $3-$4 Billion valuation in next 3 years.
So what’s the future?
VCs are now taking a back seat and are not hyped up to invested in gloomy AI startups. That means, now value & real innovation can prevail.
So my focus would be on building Web apps and mobile apps. I’ll share a complete breakdown of AI mobile app opportunities in the next Newsletter edition. That’ll be a good read.
